What is Paint Protection Film?
Paint protection film (PPF) is a thin, transparent layer of urethane that protects a vehicle’s paint from damage. It’s also known as clear bra, clear film, or clear paint film.
Why have paint protection film applied?
PPF protects against scratches, stone chips, bug splatters, UV rays, and other damage.
Can Paint Protection Film be applied over ceramic coating?
It is not recommended to add PPF over ceramic coatings. The material doesn’t bond properly and can easily peel off in areas leaving an unsightly mess and wasting money.
Will paint protection film damage my paint?
No, paint protection film (PPF) does not damage paint if it’s applied correctly by a professional. However, removing the film incorrectly can damage the paint.
How is paint protection film applied?
Paint protection film (PPF) is applied to surfaces by cutting it to fit the vehicle’s surface, usually with a plotter, then adhering it with a combination of slip and tac solution. The process involves multiple steps, including cleaning the vehicle, applying a slip solution, and using a squeegee to remove excess liquid.
Where can I put Paint protection film?
To maximize protection, you can apply (PPF) to the most vulnerable areas of your vehicle, typically including the front bumper, hood, fenders, headlights, side mirrors, door edges, as these areas are most susceptible to rock chips, debris, and scratches from everyday driving.
How do I care for paint protection film?
Wash your car regularly, especially after it’s been exposed to dirt, rain, or bird droppings. Use a pH-neutral car wash soap designed for automotive surfaces. Apply the soapy water gently with a clean microfiber or similar thick mitt. Avoid abrasive cleaners, ammonia-based products, and harsh solvents. These can stain, discolor, or peel the film. Waxing or polishing can be done, however Kerosene or Naphtha in over 5% concentration should be avoided as they can break down the film prematurely. Also avoid waxes that come with dyes. Wash the film in a linear motion to reduce the risk of damage. Use a large, thick, plush microfiber towel to dry the film. Remove dirt and dead bugs immediately to prevent permanent stains. Soak hard-to-clean spots with soap for a few minutes.
Avoid automatic car washes: Automatic car washes use brushes that can scratch or damage the film.
